WELCOME TO OUR LAB!

We are studying the interface of Chemistry & Biology, leading to Translational research. We are developing small molecules as drug against Cancer, and Cancer Radiotherapy, Bacterial infection, and HIV-1 infection. We are exploring new class of Antimicrobials Targeting Topoisomerse IA to combat antibiotic resistance. For developing a new class of antimicrobials discovery of unique and novel targets are needed. One attractive strategy is to develop ligands that selectively target microbial DNA over host DNA. Our laboratory for the first time reported bisbenzimidazoles (BBZ) as bacterial type IA topoisomerase inhibitors, which exhibits potentiality for new antibacterial agents.

Prof. Vibha Tandon working at Special Centre for Molecular Medicine (SCMM), Jawaharlal Nehru University, has 27 years of research experience after a Ph.D. She has worked as an independent PI for 21 years. She has served as a faculty at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research (ACBR), the University of Delhi, from 1998 to 2008. She has developed a course structure for M.Sc.-Ph.D. Combined degree program in Biomedical Sciences at ACBR and was instrumental in starting the first batch of Masters in ACBR. She taught courses such as Biochemistry, Instrumentation, Medicinal Chemistry, and Drug Development for ten years. After this, she moved to the Department of Chemistry, the University of Delhi, as an Associate Professor in 2009. She continued there till 2013. She became Professor in the year 2013 and moved to the Special Centre for Molecular Medicine in 2014. She once again played a significant role in starting the first batch of the Integrated M.Sc.-Ph. D. program in Molecular Medicine at SCMM. She played an essential role in designing the curriculum of the master’s program at SCMM, which is a unique curriculum involving courses such as Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Pathology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Proteomics, Nutrition, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Toxicology, Bioinformatics & Statistics.

She has guided 22 Ph.D. students, 70 students for three months, and six months of research projects. She has 72 publications and 05 patents on her credit. She was closely associated with carrier counselling of M.Sc. students at DU for almost ten years.
